OPPORTUNITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Spokane Valley, WA

SCOPE: Site Planning, Playgrounds, Sports Fields, Water Harvesting, Planting and Irrigation

DESCRIPTION: The modernization and expansion of Opportunity Elementary School is a project whose impact reaches far beyond the playground’s limits. Within this Spokane Valley community, the school serves as a centralized hub for community activities, events, and recreational sporting leagues. The original facility is 42,000 SF of vintage, 1968 architecture. Upon completion, the vintage character will remain steadfast as the overall facility expands to 73,000 SF. The central courtyard has been designed to teach the importance of resource conservation and boasts a unique rain water harvesting system.

Major site renovation includes multiple play structures, rubber tile safety surfacing, swings, court games (hopscotch, tether-ball, 4-square, wall-ball, and basketball). All of these activity areas were designed to work within a focused outdoor zone which allows advisors to monitor play safety as well as capitalize on required fire protection access needs. The play fields include 2 new softball/baseball diamonds and can accommodate a variety of soccer pitch arrangements.
